*The Rev. James Langley is Executive Director Emeritus of the D.C. Baptist Convention and a member of the First Baptist Church of the City of Washington, D.C. He received his undergraduate degree from Baylor University and Master of Theology from Princeton Seminary, where he served as Chaplain of a group of students at Princeton University. He earned his ThD at Southwestern Seminary. In World War II, he served with the U.S. Army in Europe.
Prior to ministry with the DCBC, he was the Senior Pastor of Pennsylvania Avenue Baptist Church in Washington, leading the church in membership growth and building expansion.
During his tenure with the DCBC, he led the Convention to broaden its ministry by adding 22 black and five ethnic congregations. The Convention also elected its first woman president and first black president. He initiated a Convention ministry to embassy personnel and started a ministry to visitors on the Mall.
Langley also edited Capital Baptist and has authored several hymns and published a number of poems.
